A Linkedin Sales Expert knows about Linkedin but much more ..

Posted by Chris on May 14th, 2018

The clue is in the title right ?

A Linkedin Expert is one who gets leads and sales.

The more leads and sales that you get ( of the right type ) the more of an expert you are.

That’s it then ?

An expert is ” a person who is very knowledgeable about or skillful in a particular area “.

To be a Linkedin Expert ( or any social media expert ) it is fundamental to understand the objective above.

It also fundamental to understand how to achieve this objective. The route to this objective.

Leads and sales don’t just happen.

There is a plan.

There is a process.

There is a strategy.

There is a system.

Here is a sketch.

To describe this a bit ….. it is mainly a digital model of what I call the Digital Marketing Ecosystem.

Out of all the people on the Internet some will become visitors of yours via social media or search.

Having found you on social media or by search they may visit your website/blog/landing page as they were led there from either one.

Some of them may subscribe for further information ( eg name and email ) and be added to a database ( right )

Some of them may go on to purchase something from you via one of your sales platforms eg an online shop.

Here is a sales funnel

You can superimpose the funnel onto the sketch.

The top of funnel says SEO ( Search Engine Optimisation ) , SMM ( Social Media Marketing ) and PPC ( Pay per click ).

Social Media and Search are your main sources of initial contact with a prospect. ( This could be organic – free – or paid ie promotion or advertising eg Google pay per click or facebook adverts ).

Please note that Linkedin ( L/I ) is just one source in Social Media.

The traffic ( flow ) goes from social media and search to a website/blogsite/landing page etc and then usually to an email sign up ( to the right ).

( In some cases email registration may kick off an automated email sequence. Check this article here for an example of how this works ).

The funnel indicates ” conversion rates “. They are particular to the example described by this funnel. What is certain is that there will always be conversion rates. So many coming in at the top, so many leaving/staying and so many becoming leads, prospects and sales.

Loads of things affect attraction rates and conversion rates.

Like … do you have a clear and ” attractive ” Brand and Story; are your adverts appealing; are your landing pages right; is your email sign up simple; is there an incentive to sign up …. etc etc etc which makes things complicated and challenging.

However, here we are just trying to understand the high level systems and processes.

A useful summary of the process ( coined by Inbound Marketing specialist Hubspot Inc. ) is:

GET FOUND, NURTURE, CONVERT and ANALYSE.

This equates to TOFU, MOFU and BOFU. ( Top, Middle and Bottom of the funnels )

What we are talking about here is called Inbound Marketing ( Attraction, Magnetic,

Pull Marketing ).

An option is to ” intervene ” in the process. Something that we often do. For example often people that like, comment, share e.g. our Linkedin posts we can chat to using Linkedin messaging. We MAY then call them by phone, skype, facebook etc. Ian Tomlinson is fabulous at doing this,

When everything is set up for Inbound Marketing you can also Outbound Market ( approach people in your target market that you want to ). Because your Attraction Marketing system is set up ( Brand, Story, System ) Outbound Marketing works really well.

In addition, when you are attracting people, intervening in the process and approaching people you can also network ( physically ) and meet people eg for coffee.

These multiple approaches have a cumulative result. The sum of opportunities is greater than the individual actions and processes.

A Linkedin Expert is only one if they also understand the systems and processes that lead to leads and sales ( conversions ) generally and on all platforms and search and paid and organic.

How to BE the TOP Digital Marketing Expert in the UK

Posted by Chris on August 10th, 2013

I already had a top 5 position in a Google search for the highest ranking Digital Marketing Expert but that was with Pinterest which was sort of cheating

A few days ago I decided that it was time for a Plan B and maybe even a Plan C and time to put the Digital Marketing Ecosystem to work again

Some people might have thought that my Pinterest listing at the top of Google was a lucky demonstration of my Internet Marketing skills. I obviously didn’t make a Pinterest page with that title for no reason. However, when I was working on other Pinterest pages recently I noticed a few strange things happening and it got me to thinking that I needed a back-up plan for my ranking for this term so I determined to write a blog on the Centripetal Network Consulting website that would also rank   .

I am also writing this blog as a sort of Plan C !! 🙂

If you read this blog please take at least one thing away with you – to rank today you need a strategy that combines Social Media with a great website. Trust me – you do.

Getting a website or a blog to rank high for a specific term is an art form. Seeing that website or blog there is literally the tip of the iceberg. The part that you see of an iceberg is about 1 Tenth of the overall mass of that berg. Most of it is below the surface.

Most of the reason why my blogs rank so high is ” below the surface ” – you can’t see it even if you know how to analyse websites and blogs. Let me explain something to you. My blogs and websites are not even specifically targeted at Digital Marketing !!!! Obviously Centripetal Network Consulting is a global digital strategy, sales and marketing company. However, in a similar way to us ranking for ” Wealth Management London ” searches if I really wanted to  rank for Wealth Management terms I would build a blog or website focused on Wealth Management. Everything on it would be about Wealth Management. It would be THE authority on Wealth Management.

This site is about M & A ( Mergers and Acquisitions ) but the likelihood is that this blog is going to rank high.

Why ???? QUALITY !!!

From it’s foundations up the Centripetal Network Consulting website is a QUALITY website. It’s content is produced by humans ( mostly me ) and it is relevant to the topic in question if not focussed on it.

There’s something else that very few people talk about because they don’t understand it. If you think about it a web or blogsite is software running on a server ( like a PC or Laptop but built to ” serve ” software ).

Where is this server ?? Well it is usually in some sort of data centre somewhere in the world – could be the U.K. – might be  the U.S. , Europe or India.

Is it a shared server or a dedicated ( to you ) server. ( It is likely to be shared unless you have specifically sought a dedicated server ).

You might be wondering what the relevance of this is ?? You know how your PC and Laptop runs slowly when it has lots of software applications open on it ?? Well if you are sharing with other people with resource hungry web/blog sites your web/blog site is going to run slowly too.

That’s not all – your website can run slowly if it is not configured properly and has too many ” plug-ins ” .

The geographical location of your server and it’s connectivity also affects your website performance.

All of this affects the  ” performance ” of your web and blogsite and is one of Google’s ranking factors.

The positive effect of good website performance is the reason that companies like WP Engine  have started up. On their first page they have this testimonial for example :

“My site loads ridiculously fast, my page views are up, and my business
is seeing the results. I rest easy at night with the level of support.
My only regret: that I didn’t move to WP Engine sooner.

– PHIL SIMON, AUTHOR OF THE AGE OF THE PLATFORM

We don’t host with WP Engine – we have our own hosting facilities, located in a place where there are high speed internet pipes in and out of the facility and our Chris Butler is always monitoring the performance of our site.

Hopefully you get my point – the foundations of our web/blogsite are rock solid and this is a primary factor in why I can rank so well for something like Digital Marketing Expert.

I started at ” this end ” of the factors because typically most people start at the other end. They have got a requirement for a website and whilst they think about the design of the website and what it needs to say they don’t think much about the ” infrastructure ” of that website.

You can sort of understand that but I didn’t get to the top of searches by worrying about design. WordPress is pretty much our default ” software ” for websites because we know that using WordPress we get great ranking results. We also know that there are a host of great plug-ins built for this environment and that there are thousands of people out there with WordPress knowledge if we need help. There are tens or hundreds of great ” themes ” to use.

Certainly we subscribe to the ” Keep It Short and Simple ” ( KISS ) approach. Over complex websites are going to load and serve slower. You don’t want loads of fancy graphics or plug-ins.

I always say that there are a few different types of people who get involved in website design ( it’s an over simplification ) – Graphic Design and Marketing people. Programmers and S.E.O. people. None of those people have a deep understanding of the true objective of a website which is to sell things.

I am not just a Digital Marketing Expert – I am also a Digital Sales Expert and a Digital Businessman – as are my partners at Centripetal.

Digital Marketing Expert Queensland – asks No Pain , No Gain ????

Posted by Chris on January 22nd, 2013

Digital Marketing Expert Adelaide Kingsnorth of Queensland ask – No Pain, No Gain…Are you sure?

Queensland based Digital Experts Academy owner Adelaide Kingsnorth questions the saying that there is no gain without pain and points out that you can become a Digital Marketing Expert without all the pain normally experienced

Guest Posted on January 3, 2013

I am often educating people that they can happily throw out the old mantra “No pain, no gain.”

Let me explain. The Callanetics and other restorative exercises that I teach people let them in on the secret that pain is not good and can be avoided, even when it comes to working out. It’s funny to think that relaxing could be such hard concept to actually practice.

So why am I writing about this here?

Since joining the Six Figure Mentors and Digital Experts Academy to learn better ways of making my business work and to begin creating another business altogether, I cannot help but to draw some interesting parallels between SFM and the goings on in my Callanetics Studio. Specifically this notion of no pain, no gain.

Now obviously when referring to exercise I’m talking about physical pain. In relation to the Six Figure Mentors, the pain I’m talking about avoiding is the exhaustion and frustration that can come from trying to figure everything out yourself and start from scratch when entering into your own online business. The good bit is you CAN avoid this pain.

By following people you have already worked out what works and what doesn’t you save yourself the pain of having to do it yourself. It just makes sense. It also instils confidence if you are ever feeling a little unsure if it will all be worth it in the end.

So here is the opportunity for you to realise that no pain IS absolutely your gain!

Working and learning with the Six Figure Mentors puts this idea in to practice very effectively. They really make it easy to get the information you want to start making your online efforts really work for you.

So why not check out what all the fuss is about and sign up to the FREE bootcamp  take the pain out of your online business ventures.

No Pain, No Gain…Are you sure?

Internet Marketing Strategy Lichfield

Posted by Chris on January 27th, 2012

If you live in the Lichfield, Staffordshire area and are interested in learning more about Internet Marketing Strategy and Strategies then please feel free to contact me via this website or one of the Social Networks listed below. ( You can Google me for more ).

One of the objectives of Internet Marketing is to be found for relevant e.g. Google searches like ” Internet Marketing Strategy ” . If you are reading this then you found it during some search or other for something like the phrase I have mentioned. I did not pay to be listed in a Directory or to have an advert on Google ( Top results or right hand side results ). I simply wrote about this subject.

I have been an Information Technology professional since leaving the Navy in the 80’s and have experience of sales, marketing and business strategy.

Terry Herbert with some of the Saxon Hoard.

Internet Marketing has been a passion of mine for the last 10 years or so since I realised just how many people were using search engines like Google to find information, products and services.

I came to the conclusion many years ago that we tend to lag 6-12 months behind what the U.S. is doing ( although not everything is invented in the U.S.  !! ) and so I have deliberately made and developed contacts in the U.S. so that I could keep up to date with the real cutting edge of Internet Marketing. So, for example I was a beta member of Google + which grew out of the West coast of the U.S. This means that I feel connected to Silicon Valley even though I have not lived there ( I have visited on a couple of occasions ). I guess I am missing out on some of the Silicon Valley action but I love Lichfield and Staffordshire.

Other companies which typify what I regard as the leading edge in global Internet Marketing include Boston based  HubSpot and more recently San Francisco based Twylah.

There are a number of Marketing and Internet Marketing posts on this blogsite that might help you ( Try searching for Marketing Newsletters as a start ) and I am very happy to discuss specific thoughts, issues and challenges directly.

UPDATE: I am now a Digital Marketing Mentor with the Six Figure Mentors if you would like to find out how to get visitors, traffic, leads, orders and cash from your website please click >>>>>>>> HERE <<<<<<<<<

Letter from Marketing No. 4

Posted by Chris on July 5th, 2011

Dear M.D./C.E.O./Owner/Proprietor/Boss,

In letter from Marketing No. 3 we talked about the people that ” used ” to design and run websites – programmers or creatives ( graphic designers ).

You need to be aware that while many of these people have invested time and effort in learning the new skills required to run a website of today others, quite frankly, have not. ( This also goes for some marketing companies that you might outsource to )

The people that you need ( probably in the Marketing department somewhere ) running the website, social media marketing and blogsites are a strange mixture – HubSpot Inc describes them as ” D.A.R.C. “

( For a more detailed explanation of D.A.R.C. go to download here

http://www.hubspot.com/darc-ebook-download/ )

D.A.R.C. stands for

Digital – They understand the digital/internet world. They understand, for example, how to optimise a website so that it is found ( S.E.O. ).

Analytical – They can analyse graphs and statistics to check how the website and e.g. marketing campaigns are working.

Reach – They are highly connected ( on the Internet ) already. They have Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin pages and their own blogsite and they have lots of connections.

Content – They understand how to create relevant content .

In order to function correctly your D.A.R.C. person needs to know something fundamental about your business on an ongoing basis:

They need to know ” What it is that you want to be found for??

This means that they need to be plugged in to the business strategy.

Your D.A.R.C. person will do something rather strange but very necessary: they will carry around in their heads your businesses key words and phrases – the things ( products and services )  that you want to be found for and they will weave these into every element of your Internet Marketing Strategy.

These words and phrases will be in all the right places in your website and blogsite ( the titles, metatags etc ); these words will be in the content of your website and blogsite aswell: they will write blogs with these words and phrases in the back of their minds. I say at the back because they will do it subtly – a skill learned over time.

They will understand that being found for these words and phrases is only part of the process and that they must create ” Calls to action ” ( C.T.A. )  to convert website visitors to leads. These C.T.A.’s themselves must be designed in the right way to be effective – using the right incentives and requesting the right information.

They will also understand that ” being found ” by Google searches is only one part of the ” Internet Marketing Ecosystem “. They will also use e.g. Facebook pages, Twitter pages, Linkedin pages, Blogs, YouTube videos and Internet P.R. to ” drive ” traffic to the website ( where it will be converted and analysed ).

They will create a closed loop system and monitor on an ongoing basis – How many times the website was found ? How many people converted to leads ? How many converted to customers ? What was the R.O.I. ? What worked best ?

This is the  raison d’etre of your D.A.R.C. Marketer. How to use Internet Marketing to get you the most leads and sales at the least possible cost ??

The Death of a Digital Citizen Part 3

Posted by Chris on January 18th, 2010

In Part 2 I mentioned that Penny and Thomas had ( quite rightly in my view ) adopted a very open attitude towards other social networks.

Thomas Power was in fact one of the people who encouraged me to join Facebook ( as he  encouraged me to join many other networks aswell ) and while I was dragged kicking and screaming on to Facebook it became for me the most intuitive of the networks that I joined. Whilst Ecademy was easy to use Facebook was easy to use and also easy to mix media – text, pictures and video’s.

The use of Facebook by bars and clubs also opened my eyes to the massive potential for interaction with customers.

New Birmingham Nightclub Gatecrasher was perhaps one of the biggest examples of this

http://www.facebook.com/chris.windley?ref=name#/gatecrasher.birmingham1?ref=ts

http://www.gatecrasher.com/crasher   ( Hey – listen to the music here and think of me !! )

Gatecrasher has multiple Facebook pages ( because it keeps outgrowing it’s pages ) and operates globally.

I think ( but I am not certain ) that Gatecrasher first used MySpace to promote it’s events but then added Facebook as it became more popular.

If you have any doubt about the power of Facebook and MySpace for Gatecrasher then take a look at it’s pages and the way that it promotes events to it’s group members, offers incentives and provides photo’s and video’s of the events afterwards. Gatecrasher communicated with it’s ( young ) audience brilliantly. You should probably take more than a bit of notice that Gatecrasher is communicating with young people…… the businessmen and women of the future.

So, this led me to developing a Facebook page for The Glan yr Afon Inn

http://www.facebook.com/chris.windley?ref=name#/group.php?gid=25701627254&ref=ts

Of course it had nowhere near the membership that Gatecrasher has but we did our bit to try and communicate with our customers – those that had heard of Facebook anyway.

I ignored that fact that Facebook was a social site and used it to make business connections. I eschewed the many applications telling people to message me if they wanted to talk to me rather than throwing stuff at me – even kisses 🙂

I don’t know if it was just me but it looked to me as though Facebook took on a more business orientated approach as time went on.

Next on my Google is LinkedIn – THE internet social network for business people particularly those in the High Tech world. I developed a considerable network on LinkedIn but it never felt intuitive to me. I just could not put my finger on why. As for adding pictures and videos – it’s probably easy but was not easy enough for me.

Of course both big but closed ( to the Internet ) communities. Whilst some of the content that you posted appeared outside of these networks and on Google you could not do what you could with Ecademy – i.e. to post information that you knew would find it’s way out to Google.

Again – had I lived longer I would have put more effort into learning more about and using LinkedIn.

The Death of a Digital Citizen Part 2

Posted by Chris on January 17th, 2010

Aside from Bill Gates I used to look at other ” Digital Citizens ” Googles to see how they came across, for example:

Mark Zuckerberg , the founder of Facebook

http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=mark+zuckerberg&btnG=Search&meta=&aq=f&oq=

Thomas Power, the co-founder of Ecademy

http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=thomas+power&btnG=Search&meta=&aq=f&oq=

Lucas Wyrsch, a highly connected friend of mine who I first met on Ecademy

http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=lucas+wyrsch&btnG=Search&meta=&aq=f&oq=

Penny Power, the other co-founder of Ecademy

http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=penny+power&btnG=Search&meta=&aq=f&oq=

Maria Sipka, of Xing and Linqia

http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=maria+sipka&btnG=Search&meta=&aq=f&oq=

Jet Rotmans – an Internet Artist I met on Ecademy and Founder of The Faith Factory

http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=jet+rotmans&btnG=Search&meta=&aq=f&oq=

Of course I have thousands of digital friends ( no, Mark Zuckerberg is not a friend, to my knowledge )

These people have many more connections/friends/tweeps etc than me and I suspect that thier digital memorials will be bigger than mine.

So, returning to my own Google my top listing is from PRFire, the Internet Press Release company. Now of course the message it gives, that I added marketing and  salesforce management advice to this M&A Rainmaker blogsite is relevant but there is a hidden story of the realisation of the  power of Internet Press Releases behind this announcement. As if to underline this power before I died I became the victim of a ” boiler room scam ” ( which of course you can Google if you don’t know what that is ) . Anderson Munro

http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=anderson+munro+scam&meta=&aq=1&oq=anderson+munro

ripped me off by using Internet PR to support thier credibility. Of course once revealed as scammers I and other victims used the power of the Internet to ensure that other people searching on Anderson Munro ( and similar scam companies ) found out that they were scam. Nevertheless originally they used Internet PR sites to support thier own website and the power of Internet PR was considerable. Press Releases were once just about getting yourself into papers and magazines and onto TV and radio. Today Internet PR sites are amazing tools for getting over targeted Internet messages and you will find them distributed throughout my Google – touring the U.S. , adding another Nelson sculpture by Suzie Marsh to The Glan Yr Afon Inn, launching an ESM solutions club and talking about eBay buying Skype.

Increasing the power of the Internet Press Release is the ” Internet Share button ” enabling a Press Release to be shared to all sorts of social networking and aggregation sites like Facebook, Twitter, Digg and Stumbleapon.

I don’t know how long it will last for but this Google here

 http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=microsoft+small+business+server+dorset&btnG=Search&meta=&aq=f&oq=

brings up another PRFire Press Release

http://www.prfire.co.uk/press-release/dorsets-global-production-defies-snow-with-asterisk-phone-system-5426.html

that helped Poundbury Systems be found for some great work that they had done in providing one of thier customers with remote working facilities that allowed them to carry on production despite the snow of January 2010.

Once again we are onto a subject that a book could be written about because there is great art in writing Press Releases and there is even greater art in writing Press Releases that appear in Google for words and phrases that you want them to.

The MyBlogLog result for my Google search is interesting. It was the first blogsite that I joined but I did not actually do anything with it very much. Then Yahoo bought MyBlogLog

http://mashable.com/2007/01/08/yahoo-mybloglog/

in 2007 and since then it has started aggregating ( picking up my posts from elsewhere and presenting them on MyBlogLog ) information that I put out.

Really, this blog and The Glan Yr Afon Inn blog, set up for me by Nikki

http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=nikki+pilkington&btnG=Search&meta=&aq=f&oq=

were my first real experiences of blogging. Had I lived longer I would have got much better at integrating graphics into my blogs because I was very aware that they were text dominated.

Once I got a friend of mine, Peter Herridge, to start running. He became a much more dedicated runner than me and ended up running 24 hour, 100 mile races. I bowed out at about 80 miles over 2 days. More recently I introduced my friend Richard Spooner

http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=richard+spooner&btnG=Search&meta=&aq=f&oq=

( He’s the Whole Brain Thinking one !! )

to blogging and with Howard of Seventh Wave Media

http://www.seventhwavemedia.co.uk/home

he has gone on to produce

http://zeststreet.wordpress.com/

and

http://smeworldinfo.wordpress.com/

which are full of lovely graphics !!!

After MyBlogLog we have entries on my Google from Ecademy. Ecademy was the first ” Social Network ” that I joined in 2005. Actually Ecademy is a ” Business and Social Network ” . At one time LinkedIn was ( to me ) the de facto ” internet business network ” and Facebook was the ” social network ” . Ecademy was a hybrid of the two.

Ecademy is also very open to the Internet and posts on Ecademy can be used to promote specific things on Google as you may have seen from the earlier Google on Microsoft Small Business Server for Poundbury Systems.

Ecademy was a very formative part of my Digital Citizenship. Prior to it I had really only known about websites and email – to put it simply.

It is so nice that part of a testimonial from my digital friend Victor Marques

http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=victor+marques&meta=&aq=0&oq=victor+marq

comes up.

” After a week…i think today how great it is to have such a friend and adviser as Chris Windley…He is a master ,,, a true and passionated man about his … “

How nice is that ??????

Ecademy has evolved considerably over the last 5 years, offering many new features. In particular it has made good use of the share facility allowing Ecademy content to be shared easily to Facebook, Twitter etc etc

Penny and Thomas Power also have a very ” open ” attitude to other social networks promoting them aswell as Ecademy and promoting the whole Social Media space.

The Death of a Digital Citizen Part 1

Posted by Chris on January 17th, 2010

I died at 5.21 and 50 seconds on Sunday 17th January 2010. I was born on the 18th June 1956. My mum knows the time. You can work out my age – it’s still a matter of some sensitivity to me.

Don’t grieve for me because I had a great life, I died quickly and painlessly and I was ready to go.

Of course when I put my old Captain’s wife’s picture up on Facebook last year telling them that she will ” live forever in cyberspace ” I knew that I would also live forever in cyberspace too.

I have a permanent digital imprint – I am – or was – a Digital Citizen.

If you don’t know what a Digital Citizen is you can look at this link here

http://mcdn.hubspot.com/Hiring_In_The_DARC_Ages_HubSpot_eBook.pdf

which I came across only recently and explains what a Digital Citizen is. I am not sure where having been a Digital Citizen is in the ranking of all the things that I did but it’s way up there.

As anyone knows who is 50 ish we lived from a time of black and white TV to the Facebook generation. We experienced the digital revolution. For us things happened at the rate of Moores Law. Man, we are talking serious progress here.

Of course you are your Google. I have known this from the day a salesperson that I was interviewing said ” Well actually I know quite a lot about you because I Googled you “. At the time I thought that it was rather unfair to come at me with a statement like that when I was just trying to ” put him at ease ” by telling him a bit about myself. I mean as soon as he said that I just wanted to get him out of the room so that I could Google myself and find out who I ( digitally ) was. What DID he know about me ????

It’s also true that it’s now too late to start that company that I always wanted to – the one that delved deeply into people and company’s secrets via the Internet. A digital detective agency. No, I never did that one but I did become a bit of a geek at using Google – not like super good – just pretty handy.

Anyway – you are your Google eh ?

Well here’s mine http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=chris+windley&btnG=Search&meta=&aq=f&oq= , well it was at the time of my death anyway – I don’t know what it will be like in 1 hour, 1 year, 10 years or 100 years. Only you will know that.

So, I hope that my Google of me bears at least some resemblance to yours or else this is not going to make much sense is it ?? ( Of course it might be even more interesting !! )

See, we already know that a Google depends on who you are, when you did it, where you are, what your preferences are and anything else that Google decides to introduce between the time that I died and the time that you actually read this and look at the Google. It’s looking like I could write a book about this point alone so I had better leave that one for another life.

Now, how many pages of Google search results describe your life adequately ???  I don’t know about you but I got bored at the 140th result.  No doubt ” the long tail ” stretches into infinity or something but at the time of my death I understood that people only really looked at the first couple of pages. Well – we were so busy we did not have time to click on the next arrow too many times did we ??

I thought I would Google ” Bill Gates ” just to see what his Google looked like ( sorry Bill I was not trying to rub in the fact that Google sort of eclipses Microsoft ) and discovered that he was dead aswell – well at least on page 2 of my Google of him there is a website called ” Bill Gates is Dead “. Bit weird really.

Anyway – I reckon that you will get the essential me in the first few pages – certainly by the 140th result you will know a lot about me. Having said that you may not find out much about my family – my parents, my wife and my children – and my pets. Of course Dave ( son ) and Claire ( daughter ) and even Pam ( my wife ) are now on Facebook. Oh yes and some of my old friends have recently ” friended ” me.

Now, lets get this one out of the way shall we. A whole load of experience has taught me that it’s actually not that beneficial to come up on Google for your name. ok – so there’s a few ( thousand ) people out there who know the ” Chris Windley brand ” but really I have been trying to come up on Google for what I offer rather than who I am. I doubt if you are going to find me by searching for ” salesperson ” or ” business angel ” or ” marketing person ” or ” Digital Citizen ” but you will find me for ” M&A Rainmaker ” and ” Condor Bermuda ” for example.

Had I lived longer I probably would have addressed some of these things. I could make myself come up on Google for at least some of these terms you know. Of course you can’t guarantee anything in the search rankings world but I am confident that I could have firstly defined the essence of myself better and then ensured that you would find it if you Googled it. If I had had more life I would have worked harder on this.

There will be some really random things that I will come up on Google for aswell.  Here’s one
